Texts

Since 2019, the Texts Surrounding Texts project has digitized and catalogued hundreds of Tamil and Sanskrit manuscripts from the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF) and the Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Hamburg (SUB), focusing particularly on South Indian palm-leaf manuscripts.

Collections

See digitized manuscripts from the BnF and the SUB, as well as selected manuscripts from archives around the world.

Paratexts

Paratexts — such as marginal blessings, scribal colophons, and ownership statements — are one of the primary research topics of TST.

Palæography

Tamil manuscripts exhibit a number of ligatures and special signs that were never used in printed books.

Tools

Through the course of the project, a number of digital tools have been developed for describing and cataloguing Indian manuscripts.
