BnF Vinson collection

Julien Vinson (1843–1926) was a French linguist, specializing in Tamil. He grew up in Karikal, where his father was a judge, and wrote the first grammar of Tamil in French. Some of the manuscripts acquired by the BnF in 1930 from his son, Paul Vinson, appear to be have borrowed from the BnF by Julien Vinson but not returned, notably manuscripts which seem to have been previously owned by Édouard Ariel, bearing the characteristic title folios of his collection.
